Elusive Pimpernel 'fancied For The 2000 Guineas'

Elusive Pimpernel will have a good chance of winning the 2000 Guineas, its trainer has claimed.

John Dunlop thinks that his charge is well placed to launch an attack on the race and he is expecting better conditions than in his last outing.

The horse is 4/1 with Betfred(Go to Betfred ») to triumph in the historic race, while St Nicholas Abbey is the 6/4 favourite with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports »).

And Dunlop told the Daily Mail that he had plenty of reasons to be hopeful of his chances

"The day he was beaten at Doncaster it was very soft, which didn't suit him. And he does like a strongly-run race, which he didn't get there," he added.

Dunlop remarked that Elusive Pimpernel has developed well and is a "lovely-looking horse", while he now has a fantastic attitude.

If he does win, he would enter into a select band of trainers who have won all five of the classics.
