Do Not Write Off St Nicholas Abbey For Derby

People should write off St Nicholas Abbey's chances in the Derby at their peril, an expert has claimed.

Johnny Murtagh, the horse's jockey, believes there is plenty more to come form the charge after he languished into sixth place in the 2000 Guineas.

While the animal is still 3/1 with Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») to lift the title, he has drifted from evens after that performance.

Chabal and Coordinated Cut have now both moved to 14/1 with Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power ») for the event, which is due to take place in June.

Murthagh was adamant of his quality and told At The Races: "I still believe he's a very good horse and we didn't see anything like the true St Nicholas Abbey the other day."

He added that he may have had "an off day", which is to be expected and he is confident that there will be a big improvement the next time he takes to the course.
