More problems for Lions squad
Ian McGeechan's plans for the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa have once again been hit by injury problems. The head coach needs to choose a new hooker to join the squad after Ireland's Jerry Flannery tore ligaments in his elbow during training, ruling him out of the trip.It came after the Lions medical team confirmed that Welsh winger Leigh Halfpenny will have to undergo treatment for a thigh injury and therefore miss the start of the tour.Although he is set to link up with the Lions in South Africa, a replacement will still be named - meaning the tour party returns to 37, as no-one was brought in for injured Wales centre Tom Shanklin.Meanwhile, English flanker Tom Croft has been named as the replacement for Alan Quinlan, whose appeal against suspension was turned down. The Lions will face the Springboks in three Tests and are 2/1 outsiders Stan James, while Betfred gives the hosts odds of 1/3.
