O'Driscoll to captain Lions
The British & Irish Lions have confirmed Irishman Brian O'Driscoll as their captain for the upcoming game against the Golden Lions in South Africa. He has not headed the Lions since dislocating his shoulder in a match against New Zealand in 2005.Team manager Gerald Davies commented: "Everyone is
delighted that Brian O'Driscoll, the Irish Grand Slam skipper, will lead the team."Lions coach Ian McGeechan suggested the final squad would be "very different" from the one criticised for last Saturday's performance against Royal XV.McGeechan indicated captain O'Driscoll would play alongside Stephen Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Phil Vickery and David Wallace. Winger Leigh Halfpenny will also join the tour after an injury sustained to his thigh. The Golden Lions will have neither Jannes Labuschagne or Heinke van der Merwe for the game. Boyle Sports currently has South Africa as favourites to win the tour with odds at 1/3. The Lions can be bought at 5/2 at Coral Betting.
