Johnson: Wilkinson may be at his peak

England coach Martin Johnson has defended his choice to pick Jonny Wilkinson in his elite 32-man squad for next season. The fly-half has spent ten months on the sidelines with a dislocated kneecap, but Johnson claimed the player could be in the form of his life. He said: "Experience is a big part of being a good player and [Wilkinson's] only 30, so potentially he could be at his peak because of his experience."Describing Wilkinson as a "world-class player", the former England captain justified his decision by citing the Toulon athlete's two World Cup finals, 70 caps and large number of points scored as ample reason to favour him. After choosing to have only two fly-halves in the squad, Johnson has relegated Danny Cipriani to the Saxons, but remarked that he is a talented player who has many strengths. Betting markets for the 2011 World Cup are open at a number of bookmakers with New Zealand considered early favourites with most. They can be bought at 6/5 with Sportingbet (Go to Sportingbet »).
