Mortlock out of Tri-Nations
Australia captain Stirling Mortlock will miss the rest of the Tri-Nations rugby union season due to an injury. A lateral cartilage tear in his left knee sustained in the Wallabies 17-29 loss to South Africa last Saturday was picked up in an MRI scan today (August 11th), according to the squad's official website.
He received the damage 30 minutes into the game and was removed from play immediately, with the 32-year-old requiring an arthroscopy to repair the limb.
Due to undergo surgery tomorrow, the injury will rule the centre out of competitive action for six weeks until it is healed.
Teammates and utility forward Peter Kimlin will also not be available for selection, meaning the Australian's will call in NSW Waratahs back Kurtley Beale and Brumbies lock Mark Chisholm as replacements.
South Africa remain the favourites for the series and are available at 1/4 with Extrabet(Go to Extrabet »).
Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») is offering odds of 8/1 for those looking to bet on the Wallabies.
