Back: Wentzel is a natural leader
South African international Marco Wentzel is to captain Leeds Carnegie for the upcoming Guinness Premiership season because he is a "natural leader", the club's head coach stated. Neil Back said that himself and director of rugby at Leeds Andy Key have both come across the player while they worked at Leicester, which influenced their decision to sign him this summer.
He remarked: "Playing in the second row, he is at the heart of our team and someone that understands the game and how we want to play it."
According to Back, Leeds are putting all their efforts into providing a team that can support and assist Wentzel in his new responsibilities.
Commenting on his role at the club, 30-year-old Wentzel said it is "a great honour" to have been given the captaincy.
Leeds are currently considered the underdogs to win the 2010 Guinness Premiership and Betfair(Go to Betfair ») offers odds of 199/1 on this happening, while Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») has Leicester as 7/2 favourites to take the title.
