Matthew Rees Signs New Rugby Union Deal With Scarlets
British Lions and Wales hooker Matthew Rees has signed a new contract to stay at the Scarlets. The 29-year-old declared his intention to remain at the Llanelli-based club until 2013 by penning a three-year deal.
Having joined the squad in 2004, Rees appeared 25 times in the 2006-07 series, scoring three tries, with one coming in the Heineken cup semi-final when facing the Leicester Tigers.
Other key players to extend their time with the Scarlets include front-row star Ken Owens, fullback Daniel Evans and prop Iestyn Thomas, who all signed two and three-year agreements.
Commenting on the announcement, chief executive of the club Paul Sergeant said: "This group of signings exemplifies what the Scarlets are all about this season and going forward - a strong mix of emerging talent and experience."
Fans of the side will hope that the news will rescue the team's flagging season in the Magners League, with bookmaker Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power ») putting their odds of winning as long as 66/1.
Leinster remain 2/1 favourites at most betting shops, including Betfred(Go to Betfred »).
