Strauss century puts England in control of third Test
England captain Andrew Strauss opened the first day of the third Test against the West Indies with a century to put his team in control at the Antigua Recreation Ground. The Middlesex batsman clocked up 169 runs, including a 123-run stand with Alistair Cook, before Fidel Edwards snatched his wicket minutes before the close of play to leave England on 301-3. The captain's performance could be just the tonic the players need to recover from their inglorious defeat in Jamaica. The second test at Antigua's Sir Vivian Richards Stadium was hastily abandoned due to an unfit outfield. Bowlers had been slipping on the surface during their run-ups because of sand laid down to soak up recent rainfall. Andrew Strauss is currently second-favourite behind former captain Kevin Pietersen to be England's top scoring batsman in the cricket betting. Andrew Flintoff is in third. After the 103rd over in Antigua, England are 353-4 with Pietersen and Collingwood at the crease.
