Collingwood waiting in the wings ahead of opener
Paul Collingwood will stand in for Andrew Strauss if the England captain fails to recover from injury by tomorrow, it has been confirmed.National selector Geoff Miller explained that the former one-day skipper, who resigned along with Test leader Michael Vaughan in August, would be chosen ahead of Kevin Pietersen. The latter had been named captain of both sides until stepping down at the beginning of the year, leaving Strauss to take over. And with Strauss battling a hamstring injury ahead of Friday's opening one-day international against the West Indies, Miller stated: "Paul Collingwood is not the official vice-captain but he would do the job for us until the end of the tour and then we would review the situation."England come into the game following a six-wicket defeat in last weekend's Twenty20 match, but are evenly rated for the series - Coral Betting prices both teams at 5/6.
