Pakistan win World Twenty20
Pakistan have beaten Sri Lanka by eight wickets to become the World Twenty Cup victors. Shahid Afridi, who was the 2007 finalists' star man against South Africa in the semi-finals, again put in a stellar performance with an unbeaten 54. Sri Lanka were first in to bat and found themselves 2-2 after one-and-a-half overs, with opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan - the tournament high-scorer - falling in the first six balls without scoring a run. Jehan Mubarak was also out for a duck after being caught by Shahzaib Hasan from an Abdul Razzaq delivery. Kumar Sangakkara and Chamara Silva started to put some runs together for the Sri Lankans - who had been 15/8 with Totesport (Go to Totesport ») to reach the final in the semis - and the duo finished on 64 and 35 not out respectively. This left the side on 138 runs for six wickets. Pakistan, who were 11/10 at 888Sport (Go to 888sport ») to win the trophy, were behind in the run rate on a number of occasions but a partnership of 76 runs from Afridi and Shoaib Malik secured victory with eight balls remaining.
