Aussies favourite after double century

Australia are now 9/4 favourites with bookmaker Stan James (Go to Stan James ») against England in the first Test of the Ashes after Simon Katich and Ricky Ponting reached scores of 100 not out yesterday (July 10th). Skipper Ponting also achieved a personal milestone by passing 11,000 Test runs in his career, becoming only the fourth person to achieve the feat. Day two of the Ashes started with England - who are now 8/1 at Totesport (Go to Totesport ») - in bat at 336-7 and they managed to achieve another 99 runs to finish on 435 all out after a decent display from Graham Swann, who ended on an unbeaten 47. Once the Australians came to the crease, a good start by Philip Hughes was cut short by a six-over spell of bowling from Andrew Flintoff, which culminated in the opener being caught out by wicketkeeper Matt Prior. After this, the visiting side knuckled down and ended the day on 249-1 with Katich and Ponting finishing the session on 104 and 100 respectively.
