KP out of Ashes

Kevin Pietersen will not appear in the England side for the remainder of the Ashes Test series due to an ongoing achilles injury. The 29-year-old underwent surgery on the damaged tendon yesterday (22nd July) after he visibly struggled through the first two Tests at Cardiff and Lords. Pietersen said he was "devastated" to be ruled out of the series, commenting that the Ashes is the "pinnacle" of an England cricketer's career. He remarked: "To leave a winning dressing room at this time is heartbreaking but it wouldn't be fair to the team or myself to continue given the severity of the injury."While the England batsman confirmed that he was pleased with how previous treatments had gone, he admitted the damage has got worse. The third Ashes Test will start at Edgebaston on Thursday 30th July and England are currently 5/2 to win with bookmaker BetUK(Go to BetUK »). Stan James(Go to Stan James ») currently has the visiting side at odds of 7/4 to level the series.
