Strauss: We want early Flintoff decision

Andrew Strauss has explained that England are looking to get an early decision on whether all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will be fit for the fifth Ashes Test against Australia at the Oval.

Flintoff is suffering from a knee injury that caused him to miss the fourth Test at Headingley - in which England were crushed by the Aussies by an innings and 80 runs.

Captain Strauss said the Lancashire man had been "bitterly disappointed" to have to sit out the Test, but hoped an early decision could be made for the final game.

He remarked: "It will involve constant monitoring from the medical team again about how he's feeling - and his state of mind is going to be important as well."

Australia are currently considered the favourites to retain the Ashes trophy, with Betfred(Go to Betfred ») offering odds of 6/5 that the visitors will keep the urn.

Those looking to bet on England can find them at 7/2 with William Hill(Go to William Hill »).
