Kevin Pietersen Injury To Reduce England ICC Odds?
England all-rounder Kevin Pietersen has failed to prove his fitness for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and may not feature in the side's winter tour of South Africa, Andy Flower has said. The England coach admitted that he was not sure if the 29-year-old would overcome an infection sustained after receiving surgery to an injured Achilles earlier this year.
"I'm not sure exactly of what he's able to do at the moment, the medical people have been handling that," he remarked, adding: "He had quite a horrible wound after the infection took hold."
Flower went on to say that England's lack of confidence and poor form were the main factors behind the team's recent 6-1 one-day international thrashing at the hands of Australia.
Without both Andrew Flintoff and Pietersen, England go into the ICC Champions Trophy as one of the underdogs, with 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») offering odds of 16/1 on the Ashes victors winning.
Tournament hosts South Africa are the favourites at 5/2 with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports »).
