Pietersen 'holds The Recipe For England Test Series Win'
England captain Andrew Strauss has stated that Kevin Pietersen could help England overcome the odds in their upcoming Test series against South Africa. The Proteas are currently 8/11 favourites with Stan James(Go to Stan James ») to be outright winners of the four Test matches, but Strauss said Pietersen could be coming back into form after struggling to recover from an Achilles injury.
"KP being the type of person he is, he will want to have a massive impact on this series," he remarked. "When you combine that motivation with his obvious skills it's a pretty good recipe."
Strauss also denied claims from the South Africa team that the England side is not intimidating without the services of Andrew Flintoff, who retired from international play earlier this year.
According to the skipper, the squad has often had to cope without the Lancashire all-rounder and may even be in a better position as they will not be sidetracked wondering if he will play.
Starting today (December 16th), the first Test sees England as the underdogs at 5/2 with Skybet(Go to Skybet »).
