Strauss: First Test Was An Excellent Advert For Cricket

England captain Andrew Strauss has praised the side's performance against South Africa in the opening Test of a series between the two teams.

Strauss told Sky Sports that the match was full of ups and downs and confirmed that the squad is "relieved" that they managed to hold the Proteas to a draw.

England looked to be in control of the match when they were 172-3 early in the final session, however, the visitors collapsed after Kevin Pietersen was run out, leaving it to number 11 batsman Graeme Onions and Paul Collingwood to eke out the day.

Commenting on the performance, Strauss said: "I hate it when number 11 batsmen have to get us out of jail. It's not their job to do that but it says a lot for the individual."

The next Test of the series is scheduled to start on Boxing Day in Durban, with another draw being the favoured option at most bookmakers, including Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») which is offering odds of 11/8 on this eventuality.
