Cook 'happy To Hit Hundred' In Second Test
Opening batsman Alastair Cook has admitted his relief at hitting more than one hundred runs against South Africa in the second Test of the ongoing series between the two sides. The 25-year-old notched up a stoic 118 from 263 balls, with the Essex player spending 401 minutes at the crease.
Cook, who had failed to reach a century in Test cricket since May, said that he had started to feel under pressure to justify his selection for the England team.
Commenting on his performance, he remarked: "It's always nice to score some runs. I had to be patient - I think in the first hour I scored one run and probably played about four shots hitting the bat."
England are now 43 runs ahead of the Proteas in the second Test, after they finished the day on 386-5.
Bookmakers are currently favouring a draw for this Test, with Bet365(Go to Bet365 ») offering odds of 2/7 on this eventuality, while Victor Chandler(Go to VCBet ») has England at 9/4 to take the victory.
