Cook Gets Captaincy With Strauss Rested
Alastair Cook is to act as captain for England during the team's tour of Bangladesh after it was decided to rest Andrew Strauss and James Anderson. Cook is to lead the 16-man squad for the three one-day internationals (ODIs) against the Tigers as a chance to boost "his leadership skills", national selector Geoff Miller said.
He added: "Our decision to appoint Alastair Cook to the Test vice-captaincy last year clearly demonstrated the belief that he has the potential to be a future England captain."
According to Miller, Paul Collingwood, who he praised as being "excellent" throughout the recent tour of South Africa, will continue to head the side in Twenty20 matches.
Yorkshire pace bowler Ajmal Shahzad and Kent off-spinner James Tredwell, both uncapped, were also announced as having secured a place in the squad.
Those looking to put money on England can find them at odds of 19/100 with Betfair(Go to Betfair ») to win the ODIs in Bangladesh.
England recently failed to clinch a victory in the Test series against the Proteas, following Skybet(Go to Skybet ») offering them at 9/4 to do so.
