Australia Paceman Brett Lee Retires From Test Cricket
Brett Lee has announced that he will no longer be appearing in Test cricket contests for Australia. The fast bowler will still be available for selection for one-day internationals and Twenty20 matches, but he has retired from the five-day version of the game after battling an elbow injury.
Reflecting on a 76-Test career that began in 1999, the 33-year-old explained that he wants to preserve his body so he can focus on representing Australia in shorter formats.
Lee is currently fourth on his country's all-time list of Test wicket-takers, behind Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Dennis Lillee.
And England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who himself retired from Test cricket last year, said of the paceman: "I am sure Brett will be remembered by cricket-lovers everywhere as an outstanding athlete, great fast bowler and a key part of Australia's success."
Australia are among the favourites for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, with Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») offering odds of 4/1. However, punters can get the best odds with Victor Chandler(Go to VCBet ») - which prices the side at 5/1 and tips South Africa to be victorious.
