Davydenko favourite for German Open

Nikolay Davydenko has emerged as the favourite in the ATP German Open, with bookmaker Bet365(Go to Bet365 ») offering odds of 6/4. The Russian progressed to the quarter-finals of the event after seeing off 15th seed Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.French Open finalist Robin Soderling crashed out of the third round of the competition after being defeated by 14th seed Nicolas Almagro.Swede Soderling had just won a title at the Swedish Open in Bastad, but was unable to overcome the Spaniard and lost 7-5, 6-3. Other players making it into the quarter-finals include Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu and Victor Troicki. Mathieu beat German wildcard Daniel Brands 7-5, 7-5, while Troicki overcame Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in a three-set contest that ended 6-7 (7-2) 6-4 7-6 (10-8). Sixth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain is considered most likely to lift the trophy outside of Davydenko with odds of 3/1 available with Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») bookies.
