US Open betting - Cilic beats the odds

Marin Cilic beat the odds last night to defeat world number two Andy Murray in the fourth round of the US Open.

The six-foot six-inch Croatian - who is now 22/1 to win the Flushing Meadows tournament with bookmaker Blue Square(Go to Blue Square ») - was a heavy underdog, but blasted Murray in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

Seeded second in the tournament, Murray implied his fitness was not up to scratch and claimed he felt tired throughout the match on Arthur Ashe court.

Despite this, he was quick to compliment the 16th seeded player and remarked: "Today he was dominating a lot of the points, so it was difficult to get into the match."

Cilic now faces Juan Martin del Potro in the quarter-finals, after the Argentine overcame Juan Carlos Ferrero on Louis Armstrong Court 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

In-form Potro is currently favoured at most bookies, with Expekt(Go to Expekt ») offering odds of 3/14 on him reaching the semis.
