Tennis Odds - Safin Wins First Round Of Thailand Open
Marat Safin has made it through the first round of the Thailand Open in what he says will be his last season as a tennis professional. The 29-year-old beat Philipp Petzschner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 and will now face Swiss player Marco Chiudinelli - a match in which the Russian is a 1/2 favourite with bookmaker Expekt(Go to Expekt »).
After a fairly non-descript season, in which he has only reached one quarter-final, Safin has expressed his desire to move on from the game.
"I've achieved what I want to achieve, I want to continue with doing something else," he remarked, adding: "I want to get out of the tennis scene and try something completely different."
A semi-finalist in the Bangkok event in both 2004 and 2006, Safin has also won the US and Australian Open during his career.
Those who think Chiudinelli will defeat the Russian can find odds of 6/4 on this result with Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet »).
