Tennis Betting - Jankovic Weight Loss To Improve WTA Odds?
Former world number one Jelena Jankovic has claimed that carrying excess weight during the early part of the season affected her play. The 24-year-old is currently 7/1 with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports ») to win the WTA Sony Ericsson Championship, a tournament she only just qualified for.
According to Jankovic, a pre-season training regime left her with an additional seven to ten kilograms of muscle, but noted she is "much skinnier" now.
She remarked: "I felt really slow on the court. I lost my speed. Nowadays, if you don't move well, it's tough to compete against the best players, men or women."
The Serbian added that this was a valuable lesson and has learned that she needs to be more "explosive" on the court, rather than relying on just strength.
Sporting Index considers Serena Williams to be the favourite going into the WTA event in Doha, which starts today (October 27th), while her sister Venus is available at 7/1 with Blue Square(Go to Blue Square »).
