Murray: Beating Federer Would Be Great

Defeating Roger Federer in a Grand Slam final would make victory all the sweeter, Andy Murray has stated.

The Scot made it into the last two of the Australian Open yesterday (January 28th) after defeating Croatian Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 - with Murray dropping the only set of the tournament so far in the opening phase of play.

He will now face either Federer or Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga before he can lift his first Grand Slam trophy.

Commenting on his thoughts about facing the Swiss champion, the world number four said: "It would be the best way ever to win a slam, if you were to win against Federer."

While the British number one has overcome Federer six out of their last ten meetings, he failed to beat him in the only Grand Slam final in which they have faced each other - the 2008 US Open.

Betfair(Go to Betfair ») currently has Federer at 37/50 to land his 16th trophy, while WBX(Go to WBX ») is offering odds of 61/50 that Murray will win.
