Federer: Calendar Grand Slam Not My Priority
World number one Roger Federer has played down talks of him getting a calendar Grand Slam this year. Federer would need to win all four majors titles during the season to achieve the feat, something that hasn't been done by anyone since Rod Laver in 1969.
Despite claiming the first of the tournaments this weekend by defeating Andy Murray in the final of the Australian Open, the 28-year-old denied it is a priority.
"I won't put the entire calendar just around trying to win the calendar Grand Slam," he remarked. "Whatever happens, happens."
However, the Swiss added that if he was able to secure the honour it would be "great" to do so.
Commenting on his focus for the coming campaign, Federer claimed he is in it for the enjoyment factor.
Skybet(Go to Skybet ») is currently offering 12/1 odds that Federer will win all four Grand Slams this year, while Murray fans can find the Brit at 4/1 with Betfred(Go to Betfred ») to triumph at Wimbledon in June.
