Soderling Wins ABN Amro Opener

French Open finalist Robin Soderling has won his first round match of the ABN Amro tournament in Rotterdam on Monday (February 8th), despite going one set down to opponent Florent Serra.

The Swede, who is seeded third for the event, lost the set 4-6, but recovered to clinch victory 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Commenting on his performance, Soderling claimed he has not quite reached his peak yet this year.

He remarked: "I know I can play a lot better. I'm satisfied with the win but not really with my form."

The 25-year-old has been struggling with an elbow injury, which saw him crash out of both the Chennai Open and the Australian Open, but he managed to rack up 26 aces against Frenchman Serra.

Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes ») has Soderling at 9/2 to win the tournament, with only Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko favoured more, with Coral(Go to Coral ») offering odds of 2/1 and 9/4 on them respectively.
