Ljubicic Clinches Maiden Masters Title

Ivan Ljubicic has won the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after beating Andy Roddick.

He triumphed 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) and the Croat became the oldest first-time winner of an ATP Masters event in doing so - describing it as a "fantastic" result.

"When you have two big serves, not a lot of rallies happening, it's a very mental match. I was fortunate enough to be more relaxed by the end," Ljubicic said.

As a result of the win, he has seen his odds shorten for the next major championship of the season - the French Open.

However, he is still 80/1 with Canbet(Go to Canbet ») to lift the title and a highest price of 1000/1 with Canbet(Go to Canbet »).

Roddick offered his opponent praise in defeat - who failed to become the first American winner of the event since 2001 - observing that he had ran into someone who had served "great" on the big points.
