Baltacha Through To Second Round In Miami

British number one Elena Baltacha is through to the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

She defeated Iveta Benesova 6-2, 6-4 and will now play world number 14 Yanina Wickmayer in the next tie.

Baltacha is 5/2 with Expekt(Go to Expekt ») to emerge victorious, while her opponent is 2/7 with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports »).

The 26-year-old was happy with her performance and she will hoping to continue her recent fine run, which included a win over top-ten competitor Li Na.

"I'm playing well and I've got all the momentum because I've come through three tough matches in two sets and she hasn't played a match yet," she added.

Another British hopeful, Anne Keothavong, exited the tournament to Austria's Tamira Paszek, but she admitted that her head had not been in it after the death of her grandmother.

Venus Williams is the favourite to lift the title and Stan James(Go to Stan James ») are offering odds of 9/4.
