Murray Needs Victories To Stay Number Four

Andy Murray needs a good run at this year's ATP Monte Carlo Masters event if he is to protect his world ranking.

The clay court season begins today (April 12th) and Murray knows that if he does not make it to the semi-final, he will lose his number four spot to Juan Martin Del Potro.

He is the 10/1 third favourite to lift the title with 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») and Rafael Nadal is 4/7 with Blue Square(Go to Blue Square ») to win the competition for the sixth time in a row.

Murray will play either Thomasz Bellucci or Philipp Kohlschreiber and Nadal is a possible opponent should he reach the last four.

He told the Associated Press that he needed to get his "mind right", adding: "When I do that, my game will get better again. That's for sure."

Roger Federer and Andy Roddick will not be taking part in the tournament, while Novak Djokovic will be the number one seed in the Swiss star's absence.
