Warren plans title shot for Khan
Amir Khan could be set to compete for a title by the end of the year, promoter Frank Warren has revealed.The lightweight beat Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in Manchester on Saturday night in a fight billed as the Bolton boxer's 'coming of age'.And now Warren has targeted a title shot at some point in 2009, after confirming that he is likely to return to the ring in June."I would like to see that by the end of the year that he has got a belt round his waist," said the promoter.Khan and three-weight former world champion Barrera clashed heads in the opening round, leaving the latter with a cut to his forehead.It led to a stoppage in the fifth round and Khan was declared the winner on points, completing his reversal of fortunes following an embarrassing defeat to Breidis Prescott in September of last year.Khan had been backed to win by Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao, who told skysports.com that the Briton's speed would be a significant advantage.
