Klitschko to fight Arreola
Vitali Klitschko is set to face American Chris Arreola on September 26th after the Ukrainian was unable to agree a deal to fight David Haye for the WBC heavyweight belt. Ukrainian heavyweight boxer Vitali Klitschko is to face American Chris Arreola on September 26th to defend his WBC heavyweight belt.
Promoter Dan Goossen formally announced the fight, due to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
He remarked: "I just think it could go through the roof," adding that the match-up could pack out the arena.
Arreola is undefeated in 27 fights and has stopped 24 of his opponents, with his most recent victory coming against Jameel McCline, who he knocked out in the fourth round.
Klitschko once faced Lennox Lewis at the Staples Center, coming close to upsetting the then-champion, before losing the fight in the sixth round due to a cut stoppage.
A proposed fight between Klitschko and Englishman David Haye had been discussed, but the Londoner refused the proffered deal.
Haye will instead face Russian Nikolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title on November 7th, where the former is a 2/5 favourite with bookmaker Bet365(Go to Bet365 »).
Reigning champ Valuev is available at 7/4 with Ladbrokes(Go to Ladbrokes »).
