Haye title fight to proceed
A scheduled WBA heavyweight title bout between David Haye and Nikolai Valuev is set to go ahead after fears that mandatory challenger John Ruiz intended to block the deal. Former champion Ruiz was rumoured to have claimed that he would force current holder Valuev to fulfil obligations to fight him instead of Londoner Haye, but an arrangement to let the match continue has now been struck, according to promoters.
Chris Meyer of Sauerland Events said in a statement: "There is absolutely no problem with the Valuev-Haye bout. Everything has been sorted out."
According to Meyer, an agreement has been reached and is only awaiting the signing of a contract, upon which time the necessary papers will be submitted to the WBA.
Haye is currently considered the favourite for the November 7th contest with bookmaker Victor Chandler(Go to VCBet ») and is offered at 1/2.
Valuev can be bought at odds of 45/23 with WBX(Go to WBX »).
