Mayweather: Ring rust won't affect me
Floyd Mayweather Jr has denied that ring rust will be a factor in his upcoming fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. The American has not fought in nearly two years since defeating Manchester-born Ricky Hatton by knockout in December 2007.
According to the 32-year-old, the lay-off has actually been beneficial as he feels better than before he began taking time away from the sport.
He remarked: "I haven't had a break since 1987. I gave my body a chance to heal and I grew mentally as a person I feel good."
Undefeated in 39 matches, Mayweather also confirmed that he felt "fast and strong", adding that his timing is still there.
Commenting on his opponent for the September 19th contest, the usually outspoken athlete was complimentary, admitting that the Mexican is "one hell of a fighter".
Mayweather is currently considered the favourite, with 888Sport(Go to 888sport ») offering odds of 2/9 on him picking up the win.
Those looking to bet on Marquez can find him at 39/10 with WBX(Go to WBX »).
