Buick Invitational "an outsiders' tournament"

The Buick Invitational has been dubbed "an outsiders' tournament" by one betting writer.Paul Krishnamurty of Golf Monthly stated that 28 of the players who have finished in the top five of the event since the Torrey Pines course was changed in 2002 have had starting prices higher than 50/1, a relatively large number compared to other competitions on the PGA Tour.He stated that while the Buick Invitational has been dominated by Major winners over the last ten years, no results prior to 2002 can really be factored in and, as such, it cannot be assumed that another Major holder will simply take victory again.John Daly's win in 2004 was a surprise, he suggested, while Tiger Woods - who has won five of the last six tournaments - is not competing this year.Phil Mickelson is currently the favourite in the golf betting market, followed by Padraig Harrington, Camilo Villegas, Luke Donald and Rory Sabbatini.
