Howell pulls out of Spanish Open
English golfer David Howell has withdrawn from the Spanish Open due to a side injury. He had been suffering with the problem before the tournament got underway but travelled to Girona anyway. However, the former Ryder Cup winner revealed that despite improvement early in the day, he experienced difficulty after playing nine holes.According to Howell, the problem started when "lifting something awkward" at home recently and that the event came "just too soon"."If it was the last round of The Open I would be playing, but it's not the way to start off a tournament," he added.Howell has suffered a series of injuries throughout his career and this latest one has also put his participation in next week's Italian Open in doubt.Charl Schwartzel is currently 25/2 favourite for the Spanish Open with WBX, while the bookmaker prices Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano 15/1 and Francesco Molinari is rated at 19/1.
