Cevaer wins European Open

Frenchman Christian Cevaer secured victory in the European Open yesterday, after maintaining the top spot he jointly held with Jeev Milka Singh overnight. Cevaer finished the day with one stroke ahead of second placed Gary Orr, Steve Webster and Alvaro Quiros. Commenting on his victory, he said: "I made a point that no matter what happened just enjoy my golf.""This is a fantastic day for me [and] I am ecstatic to come out on top," he added. Saturday and Sunday saw 45 changes at the top of the leaderboard with Cevaer managing three over 39 at the turn. He recovered by hitting five consecutive pars before putting for birdie on the 15th. He closed the round out by hitting par on the final three holes, finishing seven under for a total of 281. The world number 449's only previous European Tour win was the Spanish Open in 2004. Looking ahead to the US Open, Tiger Woods is many bookies' favourite with Victor Chandler offering 5/2 odds. Phil Mickelson is the second most fancied and can be bought for 10/1 at Extrabet.
