Harrington: I'm optimistic about my golf

Padraig Harrington has confirmed that despite a recent run of poor form, he is still positive about his chances in the upcoming World Gold Championship Bridgestone Invitational.

The Dubliner - who is 80-1 with Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») to win the top prize at the Firestone Country Club event - made changes to his swing earlier this year, resulting in him missing out on a number of decent placements throughout 2009.

Commenting on his mood ahead of the next two weeks, which will also see him compete in the USPGA Championship, he remarked: "It's been very, very constructive the last eight months, very positive going forward."

According to the Irishman, his current performance is similar to where he was at last year leading into the British Open, admitting he "wasn't on a high" going into the 2008 tournament.

Looking ahead to the USPGA Championship, which starts on August 13th, Harrington is currently 40/1 with bookmaker Totesport(Go to Totesport »), while Tiger Woods is a 28/11 favourite with WBX(Go to WBX »).
