Westwood looking forward to PGA Championship

After a decent performance at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Lee Westwood has confirmed he is anticipating the PGA Championship, which starts on Thursday.

Westwood finished ninth at the Firestone Country Club course after carding a closing 65 and the Englishman said his performance improved as the tournament went on.

He remarked: "I hit a lot of good shots, hit it close a lot and was unlucky not to make a hole-in-one at the 12th, it just lipped out."

It is likely he would have had a much better finishing had he been able to make a number of putts earlier on in the week, the 36-year-old admitted.

Looking ahead to the PGA, Westwood stated it was the last major of the year and he was determined to get a win after missing out on a British Open play-off place by a single stroke when he bogeyed the final hole.

Tiger Woods is the current favourite for the event at the Hazeltine, with Boyle Sports(Go to Boyle Sports ») offering odds of 6/4. Stan James(Go to Stan James ») currently has Westwood at 33/1.
