McGinley admits poor season

Paul McGinley may have hopes of winning the KLM Open in the Netherlands after admitting he has not played well throughout the year.

The Irishman heads the pack alongside Garry Orr, with both ending yesterday's (August 20th) play on a six-under par 64.

However, McGinley - who has fallen outside of the world's top 200 players and is 130th on this year's money list - admits his 2009 performance has been poor.

Calling it a "flat season", the 42-year old added: "I've not played well enough - no excuses."

After 12 holes, McGinley had made five birdies and a 20-foot eagle shot, but allowed Orr to catch him when he bogeyed the short 8th hole and the 17th.

McGinley finished runner-up to Darren Clarke in the same event at the Kennemer Golf Club last year.

Northern Irishman Clarke is currently considered one of the favourites and is offered at 12/1 with Betfair(Go to Betfair »), while McGinley is available at the slightly shorter odds of 11/1 with WBX(Go to WBX »).
