Odds On Great Britain And Ireland Better After Vivendi Opener

Great Britain and Ireland hold a small lead over Continental Europe after the first day of the Vivendi Trophy at St Nom la Breteche.

Paul McGinley's side go into the second day with a 3-2 lead, after Thomas Bjorn's European team recovered from an early 3-0 drubbing to end the day just a match short.

England's Anthony Wall and Chris Wood opened the scoring with a 6&5 win over Swedish pair Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson, despite having never played in the event before.

Wood admitted he was pleased about the victory over one of his opponents in particular.

"I wanted to play Stenson at some point," he remarked, adding: "At the start of the week I was on the range and he was giving me a bit of stick and chucking balls at me."

His partner Wall acknowledged that Continental Europe are the favourites, but stated that this would not stop Great Britain and Ireland putting in full effort.

After the first day, Paul McGinley's men remain slight underdogs at evens with Bet365(Go to Bet365 »), while Paddy Power(Go to Paddy Power ») offers their overseas opponents at 4/5.
