Westwood Wins Award

World number four Lee Westwood has been recognised as the European Tour Players' Player of the Year after securing a number of accomplishments.

Among these were the inaugural Race to Dubai and first place at the Portugal Masters in October.

According to the Englishman, this accolade in particular "means a lot" as it is voted for by his colleagues on the circuit.

He remarked: "It was a fantastic season - not just for me but everybody involved with the European Tour and the inaugural Race to Dubai."

The European number one added that despite enjoying a long break at the end of last season's campaign, he is raring to go in the new year.

Westwood is set to begin the new season by appearing at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on Thursday (January 21st), an event in which he is a 12/1 joint favourite to win - alongside Geoff Ogilvy and Rory McIlroy - with Sportingbet(Go to Sportingbet ») and Expekt(Go to Expekt »).
