McIlroy 'will Be Fit' For WGC-Accenture Event
Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is fit to play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship despite fears of an injury, Martin Hardy has confirmed. The 20-year-old's management spokesman said that the young athlete "just needs to rest for a day" after being diagnosed with a nerve impingement in his back.
McIlroy finished sixth in the Dubai Desert Classic event on Sunday (February 7th) and immediately saw South African physiotherapist Cornell Driesson to try and control the occasional discomfort he feels.
Commenting on why the damage has developed, he said it could be down to his hip movement when swinging.
"They go backwards and then forwards and that puts a little strain on the lower back," the athlete stated. "I do all the exercises I can to make everything stronger around the joints."
Skybet(Go to Skybet ») currently has McIlroy as one of the favourites to land this season's Race to Dubai at 9/1, while Martin Kaymer is considered most likely to secure the title with Coral(Go to Coral ») at 3/1.
