Phil Taylor aims to defend his UK Open crown at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton this weekend.

The Power defeated Gary Anderson 11-5 in the final 12 months ago to claim his fourth UK Open title and his second in a row. However, a below par performance in the recent Premier League semi-final means that the 15-time World Champion once again goes into a tournament with question marks around his form.

Anderson lifted the Premier League title two weeks ago and goes into the UK Open as the 13/2 second-favourite with bookmaker Blue Square (Go to Blue Square ») . He also followed up his league triumph with a victory in the following Saturday’s Players Championship event. Making the Scot very much the in-form player on the circuit.

World Champion Adrian Lewis was runner-up to Anderson in the Premier League and is a 9/1 shot to add the UK Open to his growing list of major triumphs. 2008 winner James Wade will enter the competition at the first round stage having failed to rank in the top 32 in the order of merit, he is also 9/1 for the title.

The random draw format of the UK Open means that shock results are a lot more frequent and even the top two ranked players could be drawn against each other in the early rounds.
