Kauto Star aims for Betfair Chase

Dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Kauto Satr could make his seasonal reappearance at Haydock for the Betfair Chase on 19 November according to trainer Paul Nicholls.

There were fears that Kauto Star could be nearing retirement following a disappointing season but the champions trainer has now suggested otherwise.

“I'm delighted to report that Kauto Star has been back in training for a few weeks now and all the signs remain positive that he is in great order,” reported Nicholls on his official site.

“He absolutely loves being in training and getting all the attention and, after the service he has given us and National Hunt racing, he deserves at least that.”

He finished third behind Long Run and Denman at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival before being sent over to Ireland for the Punchestwon Gold Cup where he flopped.

“In hindsight he should never have gone to Ireland, after his heroics in The 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he remains one of the best in training on that Gold Cup form.

“All being well between now and the end of November he will head to Haydock for The Betfair Chase on Saturday, 19 November for a clash with his Cheltenham conqueror Long Run.”

Sportingbet (Go to Sportingbet ») price Kauto Star at odds of 33/1 for the 2012 Cheltenham gold Cup, with Long Run priced at 5/2 to successfully defend his title.
