Khan confirms Peterson bout

Amir Khan will defend his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles this December against American Lamont Peterson.

The bout is expected to be Khan’s last fight at this weight and comes on the back of his Las Vegas win against Zab Judah in July. It will be the third time that the Bolton-born boxer has fought Stateside.

“I am looking forward to returning to the United States to face a worthy challenger like Lamont Peterson,” said Khan.

“I always said I wanted to be active and a true world champion and I will prove it on December 10.

“I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn't matter that I'm fighting him in his back yard, I'm coming in as champion and will leave as champion.”

Bookmaker Betfred (Go to Betfred ») make the Englishman the strong 1/10 favourite to win the fight, Peterson is priced at 11/2 and the draw at odds of 28/1.

Should Khan win then it could pave the way to a lucrative fight against Floyd Mayweather some time next summer.
