Open returns to St Andrews for 2015

The Open Championship will return to St Andrews for a 29th time in 2015 from 16 to 19 July 2015.

Golf’s governing body, the R&A, today announced that the ‘home of golf’ would continue host the sport’s most prestigious event having deemed the 2010 staging a huge success.

“St Andrews has proved time and again that it is perfectly equipped to host The Open and I am certain we will yet again see a worthy winner lift the claret jug,” said R&A chief executive Peter Dawson.

“Players, spectators and officials alike will welcome a return to the game's spiritual home and I fully expect that we will witness another thrilling championship.”

The course has come under scrutiny in recent years with some suggesting that it has become too easy for the game’s elite following the advance of golfing technology that now allows players to hit the ball much further.

Louis Oosthuizen won the 2010 Open at St Andrews and was a triple figure rank outsider in the betting prior to the event.
