Tiger back to winning ways
Tiger Woods has won his first tournament in over two years by winning the Chevron World Challenge by one shot from fellow American Zach Johnson.
Woods birdied the 17th and 18th hole in his final round to take the title by one shot and lift the trophy, moving him up to number 21 in the world rankings. The former world number one had made 26 tournament starts with just eight top ten finishes since the car crash and subsequent revelations that rocked his career.
“It feels awesome,” said Woods following victory.
“I've been in contention twice this year, which is not very often. I had the lead at the Masters on the back nine and had a chance at the Aussie Open, so that's my third time with a chance to win it. I pulled it off this time.”
Tiger will now be hoping to get back to winning majors and his first opportunity will be at the US Masters in April. He has already won the green jacket four times and the Augusta course is well suited to his game.
Betfred (Go to Betfred ») make Woods the 11/2 favourite to become the first player since Jack Nicklaus to win five US Masters titles.
Bookmakers also have many Tiger Woods specials betting markets and Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») go 8/15 that he fails to end his major drought next year. It is 2/1 that he wins only one major in 2012, 10/1 that he wins two, 25/1 he wins three and 80/1 that he does the grand slam.
