Donald sets sights on Majors

Luke Donald created history at the weekend by becoming the first player ever to win both the US and European money lists in the same year, and immediately set his sights on winning an elusive first major.

Donald finished third in the European Tour’s season-ending Dubai World Championship to claim the top spot in Europe. A final round of 66 confirmed the top-nine finish that was required to maintain his position at the summit of the Order of Merit.

“I'd love to pick up a major,” said Donald. “It's fun being number one but I know there are lots of great players chasing me and that will keep me motivated to work hard.

“There's a lot still to achieve.”

The Englishman’s next chance to win a coveted major will be at Augusta in April at the US Masters. Victor Chandler (Go to VCBet ») currently make him an 18/1 chance for success there.

The same bookmaker offer odds of 4/1 that he wins at least one major in 2012, while Paddy Power (Go to Paddy Power ») go 30/1 that he wins exactly two, 80/1 he wins exactly three and 250/1 that he completes golf’s fabled Grand Slam. It is 2/9 that he ends the season without a major to his name.
