Khan odds-on for Peterson rematch
Following his controversial loss to Lamont Peterson in Washington bookmakers have made Amir Khan the strong odds-on favourite to regain the WBA and IBF light-welterweight belts in a rematch between the pair.
Khan was deducted two points for pushing in the final round and consequently lost the fight with a split decision scoring the fight in favour of Peterson 112-113, twice and 115-110.
“I've got the rematch pretty much there,” said Khan. “HBO want to do it, Lamont has said he wants to do it.”
A potential fight in Las Vegas on March 31 next year is already being discussed and bookmaker Skybet (Go to Skybet ») make the Bolton fighter a 1/4 shot for victory. Peterson is priced at 11/4 for the win, and 9/1 to win by another split decision.
Despite Khan’s eagerness for a rematch, promoter Frank Warren has warned that it will be a much tougher fight.
“He was making extremely hard work of what a lot of people felt would be quite comfortable,” said Warren.
“I think the rematch will be a tougher fight for him because Peterson is holding all the cards now.”
